About Us

Queer Badminton Amsterdam (QBA) is an inclusive badminton club for Amsterdam’s LGBTQIA+ community and allies. We bring together sport, connection, and community in a welcoming environment where people can play, meet others, and feel at home. We believe badminton is more than just a game. It is a way to stay active, build confidence, make friends, and enjoy being part of a supportive community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable space where everyone can play, connect, and grow. Whether you want to improve your skills, play competitively, or simply have fun, QBA is a place where you belong.

What We Offer

We welcome players of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced players.

  • Badminton for all levels
  • Coaching and opportunities to improve
  • Friendly games and social play
  • Competitive play for those who want an extra challenge

We aim to create an environment where members feel comfortable, supported, and encouraged.

More Than a Sports Club

QBA is not only about badminton. We are also a community.

Alongside our regular badminton sessions, we also organise social activities and opportunities for members to connect outside the court. For many of our members, QBA is a place to make new friends, feel accepted, and be part of a wider queer community in Amsterdam.

Our Values

  • Inclusivity – Everyone is welcome, regardless of identity, background, or experience level.
  • Respect – We create a space where people can feel safe and respected.
  • Fun – Enjoyment and connection are just as important as performance.
  • Community – We believe sport can bring people together and strengthen a sense of belonging.

A Safe Space to Be Yourself

We know that traditional sports environments do not always feel welcoming to everyone. That is why QBA is built as an affirming and supportive space where people can show up as themselves without pressure or judgement.

Here, you can play badminton, meet others, and be part of a community that values openness, diversity, and belonging.

Our Board

Meet the team behind Queer Badminton Amsterdam. Our board members volunteer their time to keep the club running, welcoming, and thriving.

Our Confidant

A Confidential Contact Person (vertrouwenspersoon) is an independent point of contact for members who want to talk about something sensitive in a safe and confidential way. This can include experiences of unwanted behaviour, discrimination, harassment, bullying, or anything else that feels uncomfortable at the club.

Our Confidential Contact Person listens without judgement, offers support, and helps you think about possible next steps. Conversations are confidential and nothing is shared or acted on without your consent.

If something is on your mind, however big or small, you are always welcome to reach out.
